Dear Parish Families,

Last October we began our year-long celebration ofour Centennial anniversary. I thank you for receivingthis year so warmly and thank all those who attendedand helped to plan and implement the events.

Now, with our Centennial Planning Committee, I wantto update you on the events planned through theyear’s culmination this November. Please look overthese events and plan to attend as many as possible. Iespecially draw your attention to the Grand Dedication Mass on Sunday, October 21, 2007. This will be a major event of this anniversary of our parish family.

Please plan to attend this and all the events in the months to come.

Please join us as we continue these special Centennial Celebration events as we gather to remember, to celebrate and to believe.

2007 Centennial Celebration Events

January, 2007— Portrait making begins for Centennial Parish Directory— Please make your appointment for your sitting as soon as possible. We would like to have 100% member participation in this special directory!

February 2, — St. Cecilia Concert Series — Songs of praise from Catholic Campus Ministry at James Madison University. Admission is free. A free will offering will be taken.

February, 2007— Remember Program begins— This program invites back Catholics who have ceased practicing the faith with a series of discussions and presentations designed to welcome them back.

Jan. 31—Feb. 8th— Haiti Solidarity Pilgrimage— A Delegation from our Parish will travel to La Gonave to visit our Twin Parish of St. Isidore and St. Bernadette School. We hope to show our enthusiasm for our continuing commitment to this ministry.

Feb. 14th, 6:00 p.m.— Valentine Wine and Cheese Gathering— Parishioners come together with their “sweetheart” for fellowship and enjoy fine wines and food. This is usually a sold out event.

February 21st— Ash Wednesday— Lenten Small Groups begin week of

Feb. 25th — A continuation of our Small Group Meetings that began during Advent. There will be an opportunity for groups to form on the weekends of Feb. 11th & 18th

March 10—15th— Lenten Parish Renewal— Redemptorists priests will lead a whole parish retreat with sessions in English and Spanish, beginning with the weekend masses and with sessions throughout the week. On Wed., March 14th, a Lenten Reconciliation Service is part of the mission.

March 16th, — St. Cecilia Concert Series — Songs of worship in the gospel style, featuring the St. Gerard Catholic Church Gospel Choir from Roanoke. Admission is free. A free will offering will be taken.

May 1— 2nd, - Doug Brummel’s Multi-generational Renewal/Retreat— Appropriate for families and persons of all ages, Doug will present two evenings of entertaining stories of faith.

May, 2007 St. Cecilia Concert Series — Songs of worship from children, youth and adults. A concert featuring musical talent from generations of the parish. Admission is free. A free will offering will be taken.

May 17—20th, Women’s Cursillo Weekend — Valley Cursillo will hold it’s first weekend in a number of years at Massanetta Springs Conference Center. Contact Patty Huffman for details and application.

May 19th, 8:30—4:30 — Marriage Enrichment Retreat —Couples are invited to spend a day of reflection on their good marriage and how
it can be even better.

June 3, 2007— Parish International Festival — A celebration of our rich cultural heritage with music, art, dance, food and much, much more. This will be held at Blessed Sacrament hopefully under a large tent covering the parking lot. This is a free, “Can’t Miss” event!

June 10 — 17th Joint Mission Trip to Slidell, LA with Muhlenberg Lutheran

Continued assistance to Hurricane Katrina victims with our brothers and sisters of Muhlenberg.

June 24 —28th Appalachian Trip to Southwest, VA — Our annual trip to assist those in need. Always a wonderful experience for those who participate.

August, 2007 Rebuilding Together — We will work with this local organization on a specific project to upgrade or repair homes in our community. A great way to give back on a local basis.

September, 2007 Our Immigrant Heritage — A special presentation of stories about the rich, immigrant history of Blessed Sacrament.

September, 2007 — Hispanic Heritage Month — Special Activities all through the month.

September, 2007 — A Day of Reflection — Join other adult parishioners for a day of prayer and reflection. Time and place are yet to be determined.

October 19th, Noon — Centennial Golf Tournament —Join us for our second Centennial Golf Tournament as a kickoff for our weekend Dedication Mass. Location will be determined by summer.

October 21st — Noon — Grand Dedication Mass and Centennial Celebration
— JMU Festival Center — The culmination of our Centennial Celebration. Join us for Mass and Reception to immediately follow. At this time we will also pass out the Centennial Parish Directory to all parish families.

November, 2007— Rome Pilgrimage - Parish pilgrimage to holy sites in Rome, Assisi, Sienna and Florence, including a Papal Audience (schedule permitting). More information in late winter 2007.

November, 2007 — Centennial Dinner and Auction — Join us as we celebrate and dine together remembering events of the past 100 years. An auction of items donated during the past year will highlight the evening. Time and place are yet to be determined.
